Gossip Girl

While I was watching television this evening I happened to see a preview for the new season of Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl is a new show on the CW network and it is based on a series of books for teens and young adults. The premise is simple really it takes place in New York City at an elite private school and there is alot of sex ,drinking and really immoral behavior. I have not read any of the Gossip Girl books but I am really disgusted that this is what young girls are reading about and now seeing it on television.
Gossip Girl has become a huge hit not only because of the content and the beautiful actors but also because of the fashion. I do agree the girls are very fashion forward and I am quite jealous of some of the clothing items I have seen on there but other than that I think the show is sending the wrong message to young girls. It is showing them that it's ok to sleep with a guy if you are drunk or even if you just feel like because he's hot. I think the most controversial show I watched when I was younger was Dawson's Creek and that wasn't even anywhere close to this show. The new promotional ads are all about sex and one character even goes to confession to get a "birthday wish" granted. We really need better shows and more positive messages for our girls because this just doesn't work for me.

Summer Is Almost Here

It's that time of year again. Action-packed movie trailers take over television, comic book fans start dusting off their costumes to stand in line for this summer's anticipated Marvel or DC Comics movie. It is Blockbuster season. The wonderful time of year when movie studios spend millions on advertising and promotions to drive us to the movies so that we spend tons of money watching their creations so they can make their millions back. This is my favorite part of the year , going to the movies in the summer is great! I like the comic book movies and there are usually some pretty good comedies out as well.
Iron Man will kick off the season on May 2 as one of the most anticipated movies of the season followed by The Dark Knight which will be Heath Ledger's final full role.

Miley Cyrus and pal Mandy Jiroux have spoofed Madonna's " 4 Minutes " video. It is quite annoying and a little confusing at first but it quickly goes to some awesome choreography and a guest appearance by actor Channing Tatum who is quite an impressive dancer. Cyrus and Jiroux have a YouTube series The Miley and Mandy show.

An actor's strike may be on the horizon. The Screen Actors Guild and the major movie and television studios will sit down today to begin negotiations.

American Idol Gives Back

I really applaud the steps American Idol is taking to give back to the global community. They have one of the biggest platforms to raise awareness of issues and to make a difference. Last season , Idol started the campaign Idol Gives Back . Randy, Paula, Simon and Ryan traveled to Africa and other impoverished countries to see firsthand that not everyone gets paid millions to sit in a chair and judge people singing. Simon had no idea places like that even existed.
Attitudes have changed and so have Simon and crew. For this year's Idol Gives Back Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest donated a day's pay to the campaign. The show was last night and featured stars such as Fergie, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon and more pleading for America to donate and give back. What better way to reach out to our inactive youth? I think it's great and I hope they continue to do it in the future because they could really make a huge difference.
Some of the charities that will receive donations are:
The Children's Defense Fund
Children's Health Fund
The Global Fund
Make It Right
Malaria No More
Save The Children

Smallville

I found the article below today and I am anxious to find out what this means for my favorite show. I don't think I have mentioned but I am a huge Smallville fan. I haven't missed an episode in two seasons and I have seasons 1 through 6 on DVD. I also buy the official Smallville magazine when it is published every few months. Thursday nights at 7p.m. are reserved until the final episode of Smallville airs. I am hopeful that it is not for awhile. The Smallville clip is scenes from the Smallville episode where the future Justice League forms. It's so cool!

'Smallville' creators call it quits

Smallville creators/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are leaving the young-Superman drama after seven seasons, though the CW will keep its longest-running and highest-rated drama on its viewership-challenged schedule next year. "We look back at 152 episodes," Gough and Millar wrote in an open letter sent to media outlets this morning. "We look back knowing that the show will continue into season 8 without us. After much heartache and debate we have decided it is time for us to move on." Here's to hoping it goes better than the net's Amy Sherman-Palladino-less final season of Gilmore Girls.

Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in the Universal Pictures adaptation of Magnum P.I.
I am interested to see if he is going to grow a mustache for this role , bring Hawaiian shirts and very short shorts for men back.

Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy will finally be back with new espisodes on Sunday , April 13! I can't wait , the writer's strike happened just when the plot lines were getting good so I'm glad it's over and I can watch my shows now.

Nashville News

Disney's Hannah Montana movie starts filming in and around Nashville next month. The film still needs extras so the casting call for Hannah Montana will be tomorrow April 6 at the Sommet Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. I am sad to say I will not be able to don my long blonde wig and sparkles to go stand in line for my chance to make Hollywood debut. If you go you will need to bring a pen for paperwork and a recent photo of yourself.

Country singer Josh Turner has been cast in the new Billy Graham movie that will be filming in Watertown,Tenn. Turner will also be contributing original music for the movie.

Country superstar Trace Adkins will be making his official acting debut in the indie movie Trailer Park of Terror. Adkins plays the devil in the movie that will debut at the Nashville Film Festival this month.

Good news for those that miss Dancin' in The District . A new downtown concerts series is being planned and Peter Frampton is scheduled to appear August 31 tentatively. The series will be around 5 to 6 shows and will be geared more to the adult crowd.

One movie I am excited to see is Iron Man. I don't read comic books so I don't know all the detailed history and mythology behind most of the comic book movies but I do know they are very fun to watch. I take that back , I know a lot about Superman , I am a huge Superman fan but aside from that my information is limited. From the information I have gathered about Tony Stark/Iron Man I think the casting director's were right on the money with casting Robert Downey,Jr. as billionaire Tony Stark. Downey embodies the arrogance and smugness of Stark so well and if the previews are any indication this movie is going to be awesome!

Horton

I watched Horton Hears A Who this past weekend and I have to say it was a hoot! It had a very positive message and it was a very fun movie. The characters were vibrant and lively and the actors who did the voice-overs were fantastic. I was very glad to see this Dr.Seuss remake stick to cartoon or in this case computer animation. I did not like the Hollywood live-action versions of How The Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat In The Hat. I felt those were to adult with the innuendo and jokes and took away from the essence of Dr.Seuss. Hollywood got it right this time. The Horton movie site is very fun and offers games and you can even adopt a Who.

Jessica Simpson was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with a minor kidney infection. She has been released and continues to work on her country album. The buzz around Nashville is that Simpson has purchased a mansion in the Forrest Hills area of town.

Peta has offered Britney Spears a job after her incredible acting stint on How I Met Your Mother . The job? receptionist and the salary would be $1000 to the charity of her choice.

Nick Lachey and pal Arizona Cardinals QB Matt Leinert were caught over the weekend partying with underage girls at Leinert's Arizona home.

Nightstand

Fred Thompson is heading back to Hollywood! Thompson signed with talent agency William Morris .

Justin Timberlake is hosting the 2008 ESPY awards. When we think of sports we think of Justin Timberlake right?

Random House announced that they will be reissuing some of the original books in the teen series Sweet Valley High. Sweet Valley High was about two blonde teenage girls Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield and their adventures during high school. In the original books they are describe as blonde-haired,blue-eyed and perfect size 6's. In Random House's press release they decided to do some editorial tweaking and the girls are now size 4's. As a fan of these books when I was younger I don't think anything should have been changed. The media already has done enough to damage young girls' self esteem and to "shrink" the waist size of fictional characters is just absurd. Thanks Random House for instilling a positive body image in young readers !

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was busted for a DUI yesterday. What's so newsworthy about it ? his daughter and another minor were in the car with him at the time. Now that's responsible parenting.

Kenny Chesney celebrated his 40th birthday last night at Nashville hotspot Cabana. Some of his famous friends celebrating with him were Tim McGraw and Faith Hill , Kellie Pickler ( ????) and questionable of all , Roger Clemens. To make a point that he is just as normal as the rest of us his birthday cakes came from Publix. To be perfectly honest , I think I would be afraid to be in a room with Roger Clemens, that man has a temper!

Another Day

Britney Spears highly anticipated appearance on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother was last night. After all the hype and media coverage surrounding her appearance I was almost expecting her to be as funny and witty as the regular cast members.
She wasn't terrible but I wasn't wowed , I think she could have done better. With all the negative press that has been surrounding her it was nice to see her doing something positive and worthy of press. I am also relieved because the past few weeks my People and Us magazine's have not had Spears or her sons on the cover. Her appearance did net the show some of their highest ratings , a 4.5 in the 18-49 age group. I read a snippet of a headline today talking about Spears appearance and that is was more about damage control than anything and I have to agree . The person that wrangled this deal for her knew what they were doing especially from a PR standpoint.

Pop Fiction

Bravo E! television for finally turning the tables on the media. E! and Ashton Kutcher have created a new show that is finally giving the media a dose of its own medicine. PopFiction debuted last night on E! and it features celebs such as Paris Hilton and Avril Lavigne "punking" the media.
Have you heard the rumor lately that Paris Hilton has hired a guru to hang out with her? False! it was a prank devised to trick the media.
The rumor that Avril Lavigne is pregnant? False! Lavigne staged a baby shopping spree and donned a fake baby bump to get back at the media.
Next time you read something online or see it on the news think twice,it might be PopFiction!
I love this idea it's about time celebrities started pushing back against the media. It's crazy that someone can't go to lunch with someone without being engaged or gain some weight and all of the sudden they are pregnant. Way to go E! and Ashton Kutcher!

Moment of Truth

I have been thinking about this for awhile now. I don't know if you have heard of the new Fox reality show Moment of Truth but it is absolutely horrible. I have had the displeasure of catching a few episodes. I had the television on while I was typing away on my laptop doing my Media Writing homework(Hi Dr.Mac!).
Anyways, the premise of the show is the contestants are asked a series of personal questions that they have previously answered while hooked up to a polygraph machine. The question is asked by the host and then the contestant answers and then a voice comes on and says whether their answer was True or False based on previous results( confusing I know!). The contestant's family is sitting nearby and if they do not want to hear the answer to the question they can press a button to stop the question.
The more questions that are answered True the more money the contestant can win and the more money means harder and more personal questions.
I explain this all to you to say this: What has our society come to when for entertainment we watch someone humiliate themselves and their families all for the sake of entertainment and money?
I find the show repulsing, cheap , vulgar and I can't believe Fox would even think of airing such a monstrosity. One contestant , I believe she was on last week, nearly ruined her two-year marriage by truthfully answering some questions that well, you just have see to believe. She is in the new issue of People Magazine ( it's Friday I got mine today as usual) stating her case. It's the usual blame it one the producers , I didn't know this was what it would be like and of course she wanted to be on televsion and win some money. UGGGHHH!!!! What happened to working? Get a job if you want money!
I am linking a clip of the show with this said contestant , it is kind of long but once you see it you will see why I have gone on this long about it. I urge you to NOT WATCH THE SHOW ! and I will do the same.

As you watch listen for the boos of the audience when the contestant's sister pushes the button to stop the question. I also find it very disturbing when the audience cheers when a contestant gets an answer " correct."

Bond is Back

For all you James Bond fans sit tight , a new James Bond book will be released May 28. The new book title Devil May Care is in honor of late author Ian Fleming's 100th birthday this year. The book will pick up where the last published book Octopussy and The Living Daylights left off . Octopussy was published posthumously in 1966.

Guitarist Jeff Healy has passed away at the age of 41. Healy had retinal cancer that took his sight at age one . Healy is best known for his 1988 hit,Angel Eyes. One of my all-time favorite songs , his voice is so pure and full of emotion that everytime I hear the song I tear up a little.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have released the names of their twins. Max and Emme were born February 22 in New York.

Colbie Caillat and Brett Dennen will open for John Mayer on his summer tour. A full list of dates will be announced soon.
I am crossing my fingers that Mayer will come back to Nashville this year , I seem to miss him each time he is in town.

Justin Timberlake will make a cameo in indie-rock duo Gnarls Barkley's new video Run. GB's new album,Odd Couple will be released April 8. GB had the monster single Crazy that was all over the radio last summer. I am a fan of their music , it is easy to listen to and very fun and will put you in a good mood. I am very excited about this new album the single Run is fantastic !

Billy Ray Cyrus and daughter Miley/Hannah Montana will host the 2008 CMT Music Awards at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University. The show will air April 14 and Billy Ray and Miley are set to perform together . The elder Cyrus has also been named the new host of Nashville Star , the Music City version of American Idol.
I will brag a little here, I play poker with last season's winner Chris Young and I have to say he is one to watch. His voice is classic country and very smooth. He reminds of Keith Whitley , he doesn't sound like everyone else.

And The Oscar Goes To....

I was a viewer of the 80th Annual Academy Awards last night. I have watched the Oscars every year for as long as I can remember and often dreamed of wearing an incredibly beautiful gown and proclaiming my gratitude to everyone I know . The closest I can come to that moment is in my leather recliner with remote in hand. The show was very long and I wasn't surprised by any of the winners. I got my Oscar ballot in last week's Entertainment Weekly and if I was a gambling woman let's just say I would be a rich gambling woman today.
I was hoping Johnny Depp would win for Sweeney Todd but I knew he didn't have a chance with Daniel Day-Lewis also nominated and his performance was one of the most talked about of the year. Lewis is highly selective of the movies he chooses to take part in so that also factored into my estimation. Depp is usually in one or two movies a year .
I also had a feeling the Coen brothers would sweep the categories they were nominated in because they too had one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the year. Enough of my rambling and on with some winners:

Best Picture: No Country For Old Men
Best Actor in a Lead Role: Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood
Best Actress in a Lead Role: Marion Cotillard in La vie en Rose
Best Directing: Joel and Ethan Coen for No Country For Old Men
Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men
Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Tilda Swinton in Michael Clayton
Best Animated Feature: Ratatouille

For a complete list of winners and technical Oscar winners check out www.oscars.org
Also, you can view the history of the Oscars , pictures and information about their music education program. It is very cool and interactive site.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are expecting their second biological child and if you're keeping count also the fifth child. Pitt and Jolie have one biological daughter and three adopted children.
After much speculation and clever bump-hiding , Jolie revealed her growing belly at Saturday's Independent Spirit Awards.

Matt Damon announced today that he will film a fourth Bourne movie. The Bourne Ultimatum won three Academy Awards last night.

What I Know

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are the proud parents of twins. The boy and girl were born this morning in New York.

MC Hammer ( remember him? 2 Legit 2 Legit to quit hey hey!!!) is reportedly shopping around a reality show to different television networks to show his troubles with rising to fame and then losing it . Just what we need, another reality show from some hasbeen or still wannabe to show their life and then complain that they don't have any privacy. I for one am fed up with "reality" shows, they are not reality. What is real about them?

I love to check my mail ( the kind from the Post Office ) on Fridays because I usually have my People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly waiting for me to unlock the box and take them into my hands and devour every word. Well, this week's magazine features Tori Spelling on the cover to promote her memoir and to talk about her second pregnancy. I admit I was a viewer of her reality show Tori and Dean Inn Love and I find them both , how shall I say ?, "cheesy" is pretty much all I can think of. Her memoir talks about her 90210 days and her now very public feud with her mother after her father Aaron Spelling passed away last year. My whole point is the title of the book which I found quite amusing. Are you ready for this? sTORI Telling..get it? story telling , Tori Spelling? yeah me neither. She had a show on VH1 not long ago and it was called so NoTORIus. Again with the Tori in the title.

Do not pass go ! Monopoly might be headed to a theater near you! Universal Studios has signed a six-year deal with Hasbro games to producs four movies. Really? Is Hollywood that desperate for new ideas that they are going to make four movies out of a board game? And they wonder why box office numbers are low.

Tuesday Tidbits

Pop singer Pink and her motocross racer hubby Carey Hart announced today that they are divorcing. Hart and Pink were married two years. Work schedules were cited as the reason for the breakup. Pink is busy with her music and Hart is busy opening nightclubs in Vegas. A marriage ending because of work commitments? Come on! A marriage is a compromise , you work together and support each other even if it means sacrificing something the other one wants to do. This is setting a bad example for our young adults today. Does the sanctity of marriage mean nothing anymore?

The new lineup of "stars" was announced yesterday for the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Competing this season will be :
Actress Shannon Elizabeth ( American Pie)
Actor Steve Guttenberg
Priscilla Presley
Radio personality Adam Carolla
Actress Marlee Matlin
Tennis champ Monica Seles
Magician Penn Jillette
R&B Singer Mario
Broadway actress Marisa Jaret Winokur
Figure Skater Kristi Yamaguchi
Chilean actor Cristian de la Fuente
NFL player Jason Taylor

While I do not consider any one of these contestants "stars" it is still a fun show to watch. I could do without the judges though just the dancing would be nice.

Finally Friday

It seems Britney Spears might be on the right track. LA County Court gave her father control over her estate and finance and now her brother Brian Spears will be helping with her daily finances. Spears was also spotted out this week shopping with her estranged mother.
Writer's returned to work Wednesday and I can't wait for new episodes of my favorite shows to return.
There are at least seven or eight more new episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives left to air.
ABC's Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money may not return with new episodes until the fall. Fox's big hit 24 will not return with new episodes until next year. My opinion on this strike is that it was selfish and greedy. Yes , the writer's should be paid for their work but look at how many lives and jobs they affected by going on strike. For months producers, directors, grips and gophers didn't receive paychecks. I don't know the whole story and I don't know specifics , I only know what I see on the news and on the internet but from what I can see it was just selfish and could have been handled in a quiet manner and not take paychecks from anyone.
I have to apologize , the video link I provided from Tuesday's post does not work.

The Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards were last night and I have to say I wasn't very wowed by them. It seemed the performances were too long and not very good. The "duet" with Alicia Keys and the late Frank Sinatra was cheesy and overdone. Her voice didn't match with his and it was just not a good idea. I was able to guess nearly every winner based on who was on the radio and in the news the most. It seems that the Grammy's have become a popularity contest and not the prestigious ceremony it once was. I feel like popularity and commercial success are awarded more than actual talent. Although, I was thrilled that Vince Gill won for best country album. He is one of my absolute favorites and I have had the honor of meeting him and he is so nice and genuine and I think one of the most talented musicians around.
How about troubled singer Amy Winehouse? Winehouse was approved for a Visa to come to the U.S for the show but it was later taken away. She beat out country fave and Nashville native , Taylor Swift, for Best New Artist. Winehouse performed via satellite from London. When they showed her she looked so stunned that I wondered if she was so high she couldn't function or if that was a genuine reaction. She has such tremendous talent and her album is one of my favorites . I hope that she can get her life together and stop taking drugs and drinking because I would love to hear more music from her in the future.
Kanye West performed his hit Stronger and then a very moving tribute to his late mother Donda West who died suddenly just a few months ago.
Now , for some winners:
Record of the year: Rehab by Amy Winehouse
Album of the year: River:The Joni Letters by Herbie Hancock
Song of the year: Rehab by Amy Winehouse
Best New Artist: Amy Winehouse
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Rehab by Amy Winehouse
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance : What Goes Around..Comes Around by Justin Timberlake
Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals: Makes Me Wonder by Maroon 5
For a complete list of winners and Grammy history visit www.grammy.com
Also, check out this video of Vince Gill taking a jab at Kanye West . It was my favorite moment from The Grammy's !

New This Week

What happened this week:
The Spice Girls cancelled the last of their world tour citing personal obligations and family reasons. I think it was 5 diva egos trying to share a stage and spotlight. *sigh* Maybe one day my adolescent dreams of seeing the Spice Girls will come true but by that time wouldn't they be the Spice Grandma's? Just a thought .

Another group trying to bring back that loving feeling is The New Kids On The Block . I am not really that excited about NKOTB since their heyday was quite a few years ago. I believe they were at the peak of their success before I was even ten-years-old so it's not like N'SYNC or Backstreet Boys from just a few years ago. I did cheer Joey McIntyre on when he was on Dancing With The Stars. He was my first crush so I had to support him for old times sake.

Heath Ledger's official cause of death was an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. I still have to repeat to myself daily " Heath Ledger is dead." I seems so surreal and so very sad. It is tragic because it takes something like this to happen for us "normal " people to realize that celebrities are human too. They are portrayed as having perfect lives but the truth is we don't know what their lives are really like. We only get pictures and speculation as we should , they deserve to live a private life just like I do. Nobody knows who I am and I want to keep it that way.

Movies Opening Today :
Fool's Gold with Kate Hudson and Matthew Mccounaghey
Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show with Vince Vaughn and his comedian friends
The Spiderwick Chronicles with Freddie Highmore
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins with Martin Lawrence and Michael Clarke Duncan

Tears over a motorcycle

According to TMZ.com Brad Pitt sent emails to UPS demanding that shipment of the new Ducati superbike be stopped until he received his. Bikes were being shipped to Michael Jordan and Denzel Washington. UPS representatives say the do not want to comment on the situation and reps for Pitt say he never ordered a bike. Hmmm... is this a case of someone getting too big for his britches? I think so !
Britney Spears mother alleges that Spears' manager Sam Lufti drugged Britney and yelled at her and claimed to control everything she did. This from TMZ.com as well which obtained court documents filed in Los Angeles.
Heath Ledger will be buried in his hometown of Perth , Australia this weekend . A final farewell ceremony was held over the weekend in Los Angeles, Cal. for friends and family. Autopsy results are expected as early as today to determine the official cause of death.
Jack Johnson's new cd arrived in stores today and from what I have heard so far it's a keeper! Johnson added a few more instruments to songs adding a richer and mellower sound. His usual setup is just acoustic guitar , bass and drums but on this album he has added electric guitar and piano.
It seems that the writer's strike is getting closer to a deal every day. Check out www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com for the latest and detailed information on the strike and the studios.

FYI

Watch out everyone Jessica Simpson is in town ! Simpson is in town to continue recording for her country music album.
Britney Spears is back in the hospital and is being treated by a top psychiatrist at UCLA . Maybe this time treatment works and we will see her in the papers doing positive things and regain custody of her children.
It is Super Bowl weekend and time for some great commercials ( hopefully) . The commercials are better than the actual game sometimes. Is it just me or has the Super Bowl turned into a see and be seen event ? They even have swag bags that they are giving out to celebrities as well as a hair styling station where they can get their hair done. Correct me if I am wrong , but I thought this was a football game.
That is all I have for now . I have caught the flu bug that has been biting everyone I know and it finally got me . I am in hopes that I will feel better by Sunday and can give you more news.

Movie Review

Congratulate me . I made it through Cloverfield without getting dizzy or sick at my stomach. I am not sure what to think of this movie , it was action packed for sure but the action doesn't start happening until near the middle of the movie. You may think that leaves time for a whole lot of action but that is not true , Cloverfield is barely 80 minutes long. The constant moving of the camera is reminiscent of a toddler trying to film all the family action at Christmas . Sometimes you get a face but mostly you get everything from the floor to a picture on the wall and most of the time it is out of focus. The person behind the camera , Hutt , is very annoying talking constantly through the movie and at times I wanted to scream " Shut Up , Please!!!" . Don't get me wrong , the monster was awesome when you got to see it for more than a few seconds. This thing was on a rampage , he spared no building or street or even person in his way . The movie offers no explanation of how or why this monster came to be and why New York City was targeted . The end leaves it open for a sequel ( at least I hope or some background at least!) because it leaves all loose ends well loose . I like my movies tied up at the end with a neat little bow so I don't have to scratch my leaving the theater and wondering " what happened next?" or wait years for a sequel. Enough about Cloverfield and on to 27 Dresses .

I really enjoyed this movie. It was very sweet , funny and somewhat predictable but these days what isn't?
The premise was easy to follow , no nudity or sex scenes and great performances from all the actors. I laughed out loud and forgot all about that monster that ate New York ! I highly recommend 27 Dresses but view Cloverfield at your own risk .

What's Going On Around Here

I encourage everyone to join the Nashville Symphony's Soundcheck program for college students.
It is easy and free to sign up and you will be able to purchase two tickets to select Symphony performances for $10 each the day of the show. The shows selected are usually very good and include great guest conductors or singers. The 2008-2009 season lineup is fantastic and it includes local favorites Vince Gill and rocker Ben Folds.
Also coming up in Nashville :
Linkin Park performs at The Sommet Center February 26.
Monty Python's Spamalot begins at TPAC on February 12 and runs through the Feb.17
Brad Paisley rolls into town February 15 and will surely rock the Sommet Center !
Casting Crowns will perform at the Sommet Center on April 19

Over Her Dead Body starring Eva Longoria Parker and Paul Rudd opens Friday,Feb.1
The Eye starring Jessica Alba opens today January 28.

There is not much happening in music releases this week unless you are into rap , which I am not so I won't bore you with the details of those releases.
I am looking forward to next Tuesday " Super Tuesday" as it has been deemed by politicos but it is super for me for another reason.  Mellow rocker Jack Johnson's highly anticipated new album  Sleep Through The Static will be released . Johnson's music always puts me in a good mood and his lyrics are light and simple and the music breezy and reminiscent of a relaxing night on a tropical beach . I can't wait!

This Weekend

This weekend I will treat myself to a couple of movies; after all my homework is done of course!
I am thinking of watching 27 Dresses and Cloverfield, two very different choices but let me explain myself.
First, I highly enjoy sweet, saccharine and cheesy romantic comedies, they make me feel good and I can escape from real life for at least an hour or two. I don't feel depressed or scared to go to sleep for fear that someone is going to slash my throat or a zombie is going to come out from under my bed , I can go home lay my head down and escape into my dreams with no problems.
Now , with that being said I want to watch Cloverfield mostly because of my intense curiosity of finding out the identity of this monster that is destroying New York. I have been scouring the internet for weeks looking for bootleg movie clips or pictures that might give away this tightly kept secret . I have had no luck so far so it looks like I am going to go and watch and prepare to be frightened! I do like monster movies because they are really not scary , they are usually pretty cheesy and involve some pretty cool action sequences .
I will let you in on my thoughts and criticisms next week until then check out the trailers for these movies and maybe i'll see you at the cinema! Save me a seat will ya?

Heath Ledger

Sad news today from New York; actor Heath Ledger was found dead at his downtown Manhattan apartment this afternoon. NYPD says pills were found near his body and his death may be drug related according to the Associated Press.
Ledger was a talented actor with a bright future in front of him. He was filming a movie in London and preparing for the release of The Dark Knight where he took on the role of The Joker. Ledger leaves behind a two-year old daughter .
I fear that we will be seeing more celebrities breakdown because of the intense media scrutiny. It is unbelievable the aggressiveness of photographers trying to get that million dollar shot . Celebrities can't even experience private moments of periods of their lives without people following them around every where they go. It's out of hand and I think there need to be laws against this behavior a redefining of privacy laws . Celebrities need to start fighting back and lobbying for change .
